Glory was at Haven, long a planet of Independent strength. Sure it had taken it's hits, but a planet is a big place and the independents are pretty impossible to put down. Shephard's Junction was one of those hidden outposts that had been long trashed by an Alliance attack. Now she was up an running again. ========= It had been five days, then ten as Glory had to dodge a sneaky and heavily armed small fleet that was probing the Blue Sun planets. Then another four days to get to their destination. Wounds healed. Feelings burned, some hot with passion, some not. ========== Bosch said she would be leaving. "going to find that Corsi dog, or whoever he really is. That Reese lass too. Don't worry, I'll send a wave before I do anything." Jasper Daltry agreed to stay on as mechanic. He seemed to have roots now that it appeared to him that he was a trustworthy member of Glory. =========== And now they'd been twenty four hours getting Glory into a 'drydock' for various repairs. Jasper seemed a little overwhelmed, but he knew his limitations. He'd make sure to keep the Captain and First Mate... To Becker, "you uh, still gonna be first mate?" ... informed. |

Ian was glad to finally be here. It had been a hard trip. He had been with each member of his crew as often as a captain should. He spent less time with Becker, only checkin on his progress and health, giving him his space. Ian still worried that Mike would be leaving once they got to Haven. He had spent time with Jasper and got the feeling that the man would be staying. He was happy to find out that he was right on that score. He had spent a lot of time with Bosch and knew that she would be leaving. Which she did. Syl and Beth seemed to be getting on, so he let them be except to ask about the crew and take his turn on the bridge for his watch. He even dodged a patrol ... once. Syl had to get them out of trouble If he wasn't on patrol or on the bridge or checkin on his crew, his time was spent with Abe. He had suggested that she move into his cabin, but as of yet, she hadn't Once they landed and started to take care of the ship's hurts he relaxed a bit. He walked over to Bosch, on her last day, "Just so you know, as long as I'm Captain of this ship, you have a home when you want it. These doors will never close to you. You've been through a Hell I can never know, Ryobi.... Just know that you have friends here. He leaned in and hugged, kissing her forehead as he did. He pulled away, glad that his pants were still intact. "Wave us if ya need us." He walked back to the ship and started helping Jasper on the repairs. "Where do ya need me, Jasper." |

Jasper Daltry was watching a contract techie work on finishing up some wire and connector replacements. The techie stepped back and turned to smile at him. She was a short buxom woman. "Right, well done." The Captain was beside him, speaking to him. "Ok then. Uh, Captain, them connections go into that secure panel that only youse supposed to be fiddling with. Sir." "And I've been having some problems with my lighting and cooling systems in my cabin, if you don't mind havin' a look Miss Shirley." The techie raised an eyebrow. "A look? ok, but just a look." "Yes mam." said Jasper. "by your leave ... Captain." Jasper made a mock salute. He seemed in a very good mood. |

She had gotten a bit dressed up. Or at least as dressed up as one Abenette Kelker would get. She wore studded boots and skirt along with a super soft, asymmetrical hemmed cropped sweater that seemed to highlight the tattoo she had of Dude on her ribs perfectly. Then there was also her mother's earrings and she only wore those on special occasions. She felt this was one of those. She looked for Ian then. She went to the cargo bay because she knew he would see Bosch off, but she had already left. She checked the Galley and the Bridge. Struck out there too. She didn't know where Sylandra and Beth were, but she was pretty sure that they would probably be together. She walked past where Mike was and knew she really didn't need to check there. Ian had been giving Mike a wide berth. They both needed to heal a little. So she headed for the Engine Room since it was one of the last places to look. She passed Jasper in the Hall and gave him a smile in return for the one he was wearing. He seemed in a good mood. Sure enough. He was there, looking over some wiring. She walked over and leaned up against the side of it. She hoped that he liked her surprise and wasn't offering in the heat of the moment. "Whatcha' doin', Capt'n?" Yes, he asked her to move in with him and she hadn't given him an answer. She thought on it a while and then, when it seemed right and she knew for sure, she moved herself in there all on her own. Some people probably would have wanted the help of their 'roommate,' but Abe just wanted to see how it felt when she was there alone. Would it feel like his room or would it feel like theirs? She didn't want to feel like an interloper. "I didn't unpack all the way," she told him. "I didn't exactly know where I should put things." Her boys had found a home though and they looked mighty happy. It looked like Ian had cleared off some wall space or maybe it was like that the whole time and she missed it. Either way, they looked all comfy hung up. They obviously liked their new place. With them all hung up, you also might have thought that Abe was unarmed, but that was not true. Abe was always armed. Tiny Tim was indeed tucked into her boot. Especially after the most recent events with the four assassins gaining entry to their ship. She looked down at what he was doing and tilted her head. "Need any help there, Capt'n?" OOC: Abe is wearing this:

It had been a weird time, with Mike uncharacteristically absent from most proceedings. He had avoided crew, with the exception of a fee health related visit. Becker had healed up, then isolated himself, with his last known intentions being departing from Glory. Part of him had wanted to wait until they landed, so that he couldn't be swayed before he had a path of escape. But he had also had a lot of time to think about things. And he had lots of things to think about. He sat on the edge of his bed. Bags were packed and laying against the wall by the door. Crumpled on the desk was a blood stained shirt and trousers. Mike was just staring into space, contemplating the life changing decision ahead. There was temptation to slip off the ship without word, but he couldn't bring himself to do that. Becker found the room that Dugan inhabited and stood in the doorway. "Ian." Once head had his attention, he jerked his head and began walking, inviting the captain to a private chat. |

Ian smiled at Jasper's antics as he and the young techie left to go just take a look at what ever was causing a bother in Jasper's cabin. Ian got to work on the on the control panel that Jasper had indicated. He remembered his days as just crew on his ship. Back when Corso ... Lane Corso owned the ship. They had been attacked and had lost power. He had found his way back into the very section of the ship through the vents. He helped out with the repairs then as he did now. He always left the Big stuff to his Chief Engineer. A very distinct scent wafted over to him from the door to the room and he turned to see Abe walk in "Whatcha' doin', Capt'n?" He looked up to her from his angled position and whistled. She was stunning in that outfit. Just helping Jasper out. ... You moved in yet? "I didn't unpack all the way. ... I didn't exactly know where I should put things." He nodded his understanding and was glad that she had done that much. They had come so far in the in the past couple of years and he wanted to do things right ... this time. He made the last few connections and started dressing the control cabinet to make things look good. She looked down at what he was doing and tilted her head. "Need any help there, Capt'n?" He was about to answer when another scent caught his attention and turning, he saw Mike at the doorway. "Ian" He had tilted his head and started to walk away. Ian looked at Abe then back to the doorway. Make this cabinet look neat and I'll talk to you as soon as I can." That was all he needed to say. He could read that much in her face. He grabbed his coat and pulled it on as he ran to catch up with Mike. Ian knew that he had decided. Ian didn't what Mike had decided. He caught up to the man and walked beside him |

Mike walked for a little longer than he needed to as Ian caught up, just getting a fraction of time to think about what he needed to say. He stopped with baited breath and looked over at Ian who had reached him. His gaze found the floor, partly ashamed. "I really feel a need to say sorry to ya." His gaze raised back up. "But I'm not sorry for what I said." He continued walking, leading Dugan to the cargo bay. "This ship, she just keeps finding ways to kick me in the teeth. Hell I'm a wanted man now." That news alert couldn't have struck at a worse time. "Guess that one's on me though. I signed up for it." They reached the top of the entrance ramp and Becker looked out. "It's the things I didn't sign up for. Reese. Trina. Rose. Cole, Khei, Weasel. We send most people packing, in a box if they don't leave on their own." He managed a quick huff of a laugh and shook his head. "Remember Baroness? When we met? We're the only faces still around from that. Odds ain't in our favour." "It's hit me a lot lately Ian. I'm a little slow on the take, but I see it now. What drives everyone else away." "And you invite it in Ian. I know you don't mean to, but you invite Chaos in and whisper to Death over your shoulder." "Honestly, I can't see how you cope with it. And I've told you a hundred times, I'm not built to watch over it." |

During the group in the galley, the meeting and the announcement that they were now on the Wanted List. It didn't surprise Sylandra, but even so, she gave Beth's hand a firm squeeze, letting her know that Syl was watching over her. After, Syl lead Beth back to her room. "There a few things I'd like t' show ya. " She made sure the door was secured before unstrapping her gun belt and tossing it onto the desk. Then she unsnapped the clasp on her waistband and rolled the top of her pants down just enough to expose her panty line, and the tattoo emblazoned on her left hip. A dagger through the Alliance Flag, blood red covering half the blade and four drops cascading down from the tip. "Each drop represents a lost love. Brother; Uncle. Two lovers." Her eyes welled up as she traced the tattoo and then she looked at Beth for reaction. She stepped to the small shelf over her desk, and took down the small figurine carefully, both hands cradling it. The small green clad fairy in the snow globe smiled idiotically back at her. "My brother sent me this just before they lost th' ship t' an Alliance patrol. It's my vengeance totem. "

Beth was grateful for the gentle pressure of Sylandra's reassuring squeeze. She felt a mixture of surprise and happiness when Sylandra led her to her cabin and secured the door behind them but Beth wasn't sure what to expect when Sylandra started to roll down her pants; "Is it now?" she had time to wonder before Sylandra revealed the small tattoo on her hip. When Sylandra explained it, she felt an urge to touch the tattoo with the tip of one finger but before she could get past her procrastination, Sylandra had moved to pick up the snow globe. Beth had seen the the tears welling up in Sylandra's eyes and it tore at her heart. "Can I say any of them were taken by the Alliance?" she asked herself. She didn't think she could; at a stretch her father had been a victim of lax safety standards due to the greed of a corporation putting profits before people but even then there had been a general consensus that tighter safety standards would probably not have prevented the accident that killed him. Her mother and unborn baby had been a victim of her mother's foolish desperation. "And what of April?" It was an Alliance-sponsored clinic that had gone against them but not one had been implicated, let alone held to account. "And was their part, assuming they had had the clinic burned down, greater than mine?" she accused herself. The talk of vengeance unsettled her. "So are you going to run for fear of letting someone else down?" she demanded. It was her way, to run, when things got difficult. Beth stepped forward, having made her decision and slipped her arms around Sylandra's waist and drew herself closer though she took care not to endanger Sylandra's grip on the snow globe. She reached up and brushed a tear from the other woman's face, still careful lest she cause some catastrophe to befall the totem. "They don't count the real cost, the generals in their war rooms and the corp rats in their fancy boardrooms. In her mind they went together, the generals and the CEOs, war being of huge financial benefit to a small number of large corporations. It brought to mind some lyrics to a song she had stumbled across at one point or another. She had no idea where they came from but they seemed appropriate. "Send us to into battle, send us the front line, point us at the enemy lest we forget. It's for our protection that we lay here slaughtered, it's for our survival we bury our dead,(1)" she chanted quietly as if to herself. "I would trade my life for theirs, if I could, dear Sylandra," she offered softly, the hand that she had used to brush the tear now cradling Sylandra's cheek. (1) Alison Moyet, "Money Mile"

Sylandra gently set the globe back as Beth reached up to dry one tear. She looked back at the woman's face, seeing the concern there. "I found ... found that it wasn't truly Alliance. A group o' renegade Purplebellies... used their authority t' hijack ships, crew, cargo. Stashed away 'gains th' end o' th' War. My family ship, Garson's Folly, was one. Uncle 'n' Brother on board, assassinated. Been lookin' fo' evidence. Men responsible. Followin' leads." Her eyes darkened again, sight far off, away. When she looked back at Beth, they were soft and brimming. "If I told yo' t' run away, would yo'? Save yourself from my curse?" She let herself, and Beth, slip down to sit on the floor. Together, they were eye to eye. Syl wrapped the smaller woman in her arms. She felt the warmth of her breath against her cheek and finally knew there was no way she would let go of another. She pulled Beth as tight as she could and kissed her cheek. Tentatively. Gently. And it turned into their lips touching, parting. A kiss that went on for eternity.

Sylandra said: "If I told yo' t' run away, would yo'? Save yourself from my curse?" It was a good question, the answer in the affirmative playing into Beth's natural cowardice. Then she thought of April, of what she now recognised as her subconscious running away from the thought of a relationship and she had to wonder how often it had steered her away from potential relationships. "No," she said firmly. "No more running. If there is danger ahead of us I want to meet it by your side, not hiding behind you or slinking away," she continued and then they were on the deck, their arms around each other and Sylandra's lips had found her own and her thoughts drifted away for a while as the kiss continued on and her own lips parted in response to Sylandra's lead. "But then I am cursed too. All those I have gotten close to have died; my father, mother, grandfather and then April. Perhaps it is you who should do the running," she said when they finally came up for air. But she kept her arms tightly around Sylandra as though she were afraid that she might take her warning seriously and flee despite the small technicality that they were in Sylandra's cabin. "Might it become my cabin too?" she wondered and surprised herself by not feeling an urge to run but instead wanting to do everything in her power to have that as at least a distant possibility.

Dugan and Becker - Cargo Bay by the Airlock Becker had walked a bit as Ian had said goodbye to Abe in the Engine Room. She had finally moved in and he was happy. Then Mike came and put a damper on his joy with his demeanor. It was time to nip this thing between them. Mike was needed. Plain and simple Ian finally caught up and let him talk as they walked on, the tails of his great black Duster hanging limply behind him as he moved, as if held down by the sheer weight of the matters they had to discuss. Ian let him talk until he talked himself out and still Ian didn't speak. It was a lot of information to digest. A lot of what Mike said was true, but he didn't need to look over his shoulder to know that She was there in all her dark glory. He looked out, past Mike, past the town, past the planet and past time. "I ever tell ya about my sister? Tall, eighteen, ginger haired and green eyed. A looker to be sure. She was older than me by a full year and never let me forget that for fifteen years. Almost to the day. I work hard to remember her face. Every detail." He was quiet for just a moment. "See, I can't remember my mothers face. I can remember her voice but not what she looks like, so I work to remember my sister's. I realized that five years ago." A beat went by. "When they were taken from me, I really didn't care. Not at first. I had to get clean and sober. Then it hit me. Two years later. I cried like a baby then joined the Alliance Military. They died in a 'Random act of Violence' No leads. Still unsolved." He just talked. And he hoped that Mike would hear him and listen. "I found my serenity when Glory found me. Lane turned the ship over to me and had her since. But that history you know. You are a part of it. ... Glory is about second chances. And I have ta give that to everyone or there wont be any more Mike Becker's in the 'Verse when their needed." He went on. "I have ta give every Tyler Lyndon a second chance just as I do every Mike Becker. I cant pick and choose that. If I do ... then I'll stop bein a Captain and become a ... politician. It came out like a foul taste He smiled his crooked smile. "Mike, if that ever happens, just shoot me and save the 'Verse some trouble." He turned to his Second. The point is ... Mike, ... I need ya. Here. With us. Now. There is a war on and we have ta fight it or go hide under a rock somewhere. I know your not the hidin type. After the war ... Well ... things will probably be the same, but we'll be in a better place and I can help you get another ship of your own ta captain or to own and tell the Captain what ta do. But for now ... Jasper and the sweet techie had some fun in his cabin. Then they felt like a few drinks and dinner might be a good way to get refreshed. Daltry sent a quick wave to his Captain. "Taking some dock time Captain Dugan. Few hours, no more, then back at it sir." It was a reasonable request. Daltry had been hard at it for days, despite not quite being fully recovered from his extended drug induced marathon of keeping Glory flying during her last rigorous test. ---- Back behind the usual dock bars, inns and business Jasper found a more relaxing place. More to his liking. More locals. More flavor. He and his dolly knew they were just ships passing for a few nights and days. But she was a spacer. He wasn't, but knew the drill. Across the saloon Kansas Jack spotted him. He leaned to one of his mate, "if'n I dreamin' or or wishin' to see it. It'd be Jasp Daltry." Both men carefully looked over at Jasper Daltry and his date. "Easy money boss." "Yep, like ta juss drop in our lap." Kansas Jack was a bounty hunter. Jasper Daltry had a small bounty on him. It was long standing. Despite thinking he was free and clear of his old gangster days, someone had held a grudge. ...... Jasper Daltry woke to the taste of a hundred dirty socks in his mouth. He opened his eyes and looked around. Three men were in the room with him. One was just walking away from his techie rut-buddie. She was naked, been beaten. She rolled over in pain. One of the three men walked toward him buckling up his pants. "Hey Daltry." someone spoke. "Little bounty on you, betcha didn't know." Kansas Jack smiled. "But ya juss droppin' in like that, right squared on me lap." Kansas Jack smiled. "Eaazzzyyyy money." Jasper tried to adjust his eyes. Figured the odds. Rut the odds. He wanted to make them pay. How? How? Only one way he could think of. "small picking likely? How bout we make a deal. Let us go... if I deliver a bigger payday eh?" Kansas Jack looked sceptical. "Dugan. Ian Dugan and all the rest." Kansas Jack looked even more sceptical. "Convince me." And Jasper Daltry did. ======================= OOC: Japser history, of which Glory Officers are aware of: http://lostinserenity.com/topic/1228204/1/#new see post #10 Edited by Tojoyama, Dec 2 2015, 07:12 AM.

Glory - Cargo Bay by Ramp Ian watched the comings and goings of the techs that he had hired to make repairs to the Glory. The last time something like this happened a bomb or tracker was placed. It led to his getting hurt. He really didn't want that to happen again. Jasper passed through on his way to a bar. Ian knew the man could use some down time. ~~~~More than a few hours later~~~~ Ian was getting worried. Jasper was not back yet and he had not established a safe code so he rectified that situation. If you are in trouble or see trouble comin, the word is Pineapple. Work it into a conversation or just say the word. He really wished he had told Jasper. |

"Gorram it Ian." Mike wasn't sure whether he was gullible, or Ian was quite the wordsmith. Either way, a fair argument had been put forward, or at least something Becker couldn't dispute. On paper, Mike was as big a risk as anyone walking through the door, but Ian had given him that chance. Becker held a long pause for thought, then Ian spoke of how he needed Mike right now. "I'm still leaving." Some things were decided. "I'm not happy here. Not for a while now." He also objected to Ian's proposition. "Not interested in my own ship neither." He sighed. "Not rightly sure what I'm interested in. "Not leaving yet. Gotta figure where I'm going and get some savings together. But you should know I'm planning to ground myself." "Can't keep going Ian. How much you got left in you?" He took a moment, allowing for an answer if Ian had one. Then Mike turned to face back into the ship. "Let's do whatever you need to do. And you know, clearing our names would be nice." With that, Mike headed back into the ship. But stopped just short of a departure. There was something he had to say. "Rose waa a good woman. Had her reasons." He turned slightly. "I mean, I get it, but..." Turning back. "Guess that's just how the 'verse is." |

Galley - A few minutes past "More than a few hours later" After he had told everyone present the Trouble word he took a few minutes to play back what Mike had said at the end of their ... talk. He had finished his case and seemed to have reached Mike, then Jasper and Katrina Samuals, Ian had checked the roster of techies until he had found her so he would know her name later, walked by on their trip out on the town. Then Mike "I'm still leaving. ... I'm not happy here. Not for a while now. ... Not interested in my own ship neither. ...(sigh)... Not rightly sure what I'm interested in. "Not leaving yet. Gotta figure where I'm going and get some savings together. But you should know I'm planning to ground myself." "Can't keep going Ian. How much you got left in you?" Ian let out a breath that he had not known he was holding and actually gave Mike's question some thought. He looked away from his friend and then back to him. "Dont rightly know, Mike. But I'll give it all. For the ship ... for the cause ... and for you." They both turned to look inward, at the ship. The cargo bay was mostly clear, there were still scorch marks from the gun play, but the blood had been cleaned and most of the wires and panels were replaced or repaired. He could see a couple of other techs walking about, working, he caught a glimpse of Abe moving around in the Engine Room where he left her, the door still open. He smiled a sad smile, both happy to be there but saddened that Mike was determined to leave. "Let's do whatever you need to do. And you know, clearing our names would be nice." Ian nodded. Mike began to walk back into the ship, leaving Ian by the main airlock. But then Mike stopped, half turned back to Ian. "Rose waa a good woman. Had her reasons. ... I mean, I get it, but..." Mike turned again to leave but finished his thought before he left Ian alone with his dark lover. "Guess that's just how the 'verse is." Ian had not had many dealings with Rose. But he could not let her finish torturing Bosch or let her kill the cyborg. Rose may have been a friend, but Bosch was crew. She was Family. What more could he do? He shook his head and followed Mike back into the ship, leaving Death looking out the Airlock. Now he just wanted to make sure that everyone knew what to do if Murphy showed his ugly face. |

Some time later... Sylandra lay on her back, naked, Beth curled up next to her in Syl's bunk. It was a tight fit, but that made it all the more cozy. Syl could feel the warmth of the other woman pressed against her, and she felt comforted by that. The top of Beth's head barely reached her chin, and she nuzzled Beth's forehead and planted a brief kiss just at the hairline. Beth stirred quietly; it had been over an hour since they had discovered their mutual passion and took refuge in Syl's cabin. Syl slid her own hand down her front, amazed at how hard her nipples were. They still tingled from Beth's ministrations, and Syl smiled at the memory. An interestin' change of events, this. But it felt good... gorram, it felt great! A moment passed and she realized the dull thunder she was hearing was her stomach. She giggled quietly, and reached over to brush a lock of Beth's hair away from her cheek.

Beth had drifted off into a light sleep, exhausted, physically and emotionally, by the encounter and feeling very safe in Sylandra's embrace. She had thought that she would have felt too shy to allow Sylandra to remove her garments, never mind that she was returning the favour; thought that her lack of experience with her own body let alone someone else's would have sent her spiralling down into intense anxiety but the heat of passion and swept her along so fast that she hadn't the capacity for anything approaching thought. There had only been the moment, the now, no past or future, no dwelling on what had happened, no planning the steps ahead and anticipating what might go astray and Beth had embraced it, this new gift from Sylandra that she had all but given up hope of ever receiving; and she had done her back, taking Sylandra's lead and guidance and experiencing pleasure, physical and emotional, beyond anything she had dreamed of. Sylandra's kiss drew Beth so gently out of sleep that she was not aware of waking and thought herself still dreaming. Confused but not aware of her confusion, Beth believed that it had all been a dream and that the dream continued, that the warm body holding her close was part of that dream and that she would wake up and find herself alone in her bunk. So caught up in a world, partially of her own making, where nice things didn't happen to Doctor Bethany Jane Williams, Beth couldn't conceive that what she had experienced, what she was experiencing now, were real. Tears leaked slowly out between her still closed eyelids and dripped onto Sylandra's bare skin.

JASPER DALTRY A wave came in for Captain Dugan. It was Jasper Daltry, sounding quite familiar with the Captain, which was unusual. Maybe he was just drunk, he had been out all day. "Ian buddy, I ran into an ole mate, former gangster plant in the counterintelligence services. He's got some great info on Alliance spooks, er ghosts as you like to call em." the emphasis on ghosts. "I'm at the Thirsty Turtle, back behind the Taverns facin' the docks. Bring the boys," A little chuckle there, much like the one when he learned Ian and Abe had names for their guns. "They neigborhood is pretty rough." He waited for a response. |

As soon as the wave came in, Ian ran to the bridge and played it over the speakers. Jasper had never been gone this long. He listened to the message, it was a live feed, but sound only. Not uncommon, but still. The silence grew uncomfortable as Ian thought through the message. Most of this wasn't like Jasper. Then he got it. Or though he did. "Jasper, your drunk. Stay where you are. Me and the boys will be there with bells on. Bells and Pineapples. I've got your location and we'll head out right away. Be a few minutes ta get there. Dont move. You are in some big trouble mister." He cut the transmission and turned to those that followed him to the Bridge. "You heard." It wasn't a question. He flipped the All Comm "All hands. We have a rescue mission. Jasper is in trouble. Abe, get your best long range boys ready. Comm buds for each of us. Syl, get the Blaze warmed up. Beth, I suspect casualties so prep the Med Bay. Mike, your with me. Once everyone is in position, Mike and I will stroll in and pick up Jasper. Keep comms open. Everybody clear? He waited "Mount up! Let's roll! |
